January Garden Coaching
The other day I did my first in a monthly series of Free Garden Coaching Sessions.
The event runs through Eventbrite, on a Monday in the middle of the month. The next one is on 19.2.
Each one will have a different theme and topic that I will cover.
In the January Garden Coaching Session I focused on:
Word of the Month: Vision
Habit of the Month: Garden Design
The reason I focused this session on Garden Design is that this is the PERFECT time to reflect on your garden over the last year, think about what worked well, what didn’t work so well AND you have plenty of time to make some rather significant changes to your garden now and still have it looking amazing come late spring/early summer!
How do I know?
Because I did it last year!
My Garden Transformation:
We moved into the our new home in July 2022. At this stage the garden was a large space with lots of potential but not at all what I wanted my garden to look like.
I started on the terrace
I knew that the terrace needed to be changed but I didn’t have a plan at that stage.
What I did know:
I hated how exposed I felt sitting on that terrace
I hated that expanse of concrete
It didn’t feel like I was sitting in a garden (more like a carpark)
I wanted wildlife around me
So I started lifting pavers out of the terrace and digging out the sand and hardcore underneath.
I created many planting pockets and planted a lot of trees in the spaces that I created:
Amelanchier Lamarckii (mulit-stemmed)
Birch Tree (multi-stemmed)
Korean Fir tree (the Christmas tree)
Malus Everestee
It gives the terrace a sense of seclusion. When you now sit on it you no longer feel as exposed to the elements.
I went into a lot more detail on my garden transformation in my January Coaching session.
I’ll also cover more on what happened next in upcoming blog posts.
