Easter Craft

Easter Craft that is fun, easy to do, AND good for wildlife?

Yup, let’s get started…

This is my favourite Easter craft! I cannot overstate how much I love this craft. It is fun, easy and QUICK! I love a quick craft. I wish I was the mum who could spend hours gazing lovingly at her children while they crafted intricate and messy works of art. BUT I AM NOT THAT MUM.

If we are going to do a craft project it needs to be:

  • Easy to set up

  • Not involve mess

  • Ideally, something the kids can do on their own (while I lovingly gaze at them and drink a cup of tea)

Does this sound like your kind of craft?

“Yay”, you might think but “you haven’t told me what we are making?!?”

Fair point, I should start with that:

Today we are making A Felt Ball Garland for your garden.

The garland is super pretty and really adds some fun to your trees/shrubs at this time of year. It makes things look so so pretty and fun and Eastery (not a word, but it should be!)

And the best part:

The birds love it!

The wool felt balls are great for your garden feathery friends! At this time of year birds are starting to build their nests and once they have made the structure out of twigs they are looking for ways to soften their nests.

  • That’s where your garland comes in!

Birds will steal some of your felt. The balls will start to get a bit misshapen but I think its all part of the fun!

Trust me, it’s so joyful seeing birds help themselves to your garland felt.

What You Need:

Supplies:

You just need 3 things:

  1. Wool felt balls

  2. Needle

  3. Thread

You could make the felt balls yourself but that was a step too far for me. I bought them online. Just make sure they are wool felt and not something synthetic. Birds like the real stuff (high standard birds, I know)

How to:

It feels a bit silly calling this a ‘how to’ because it is so simple but I’m pushing through the discomfort:

  1. Find your needle (I am famous in my house for loosing needles)

  2. Cut your thread. I recommend cutting it quite long

  3. Thread your needle

  4. Push your needle through the felt ball

  5. Repeat

  6. Once it is as long as you want tie it off

  7. Hang it in your tree/bush/shrug

  8. Admire the prettiness

  9. Wait for the birds

I made a reel you can watch it here ⬅️
